RN Team Leader Oncology Clinic Department: Oncology Clinic (718144) Schedule: FT Shift: Day Hours: 8A-5P Job Details: Description: The Clinic Team Leader Cancer Center will be responsible for the indirect supervision of the oncology clinic staff, implementing cutting edge oncology clinical standards and raising the level of oncology clinical expertise. The Clinic Team leader will serve as an oncology clinical nurse expert, lead and motivate the oncology clinical team and work closely with the Infusion Team Leader Inpatient Clinical Manager, Director of Oncology and physicians to assure that day to day operations run smoothly and efficiently. Typical Duties · Review the daily clinic schedule for all physicians and PA specifically looking for patients with problems/issues, review mix of new patients and already established patients to determine appropriate scheduling of patients, anticipate and assess the needs of patients (inpatient admissions, wound care, social work referral, referral to nutrition, referral to infusion center, injections, etc.) and communicate with the physicians and PA · Hold a 15 minute "huddle' daily with clinic staff and hold a 15 minute meeting with the Infusion Team Leader and the Director of Oncology to talk about upcoming day · Act as a triage specialist for the clinic staff i.e. triage of telephone calls and making appropriate clinical decisions and communicating those decisions to the physicians, PA and clinic staff. Monitor on call coverage schedule. · Maintain close contact with the dedicated inpatient oncology unit by attending monthly education sessions and recommending educations need to the Director of Oncology and the Inpatient Clinical Manager. · Facilitate direct admissions to the inpatient unit by giving report that includes sex of patient, type of disease, symptoms and any special needs of patients like patient gender, neutropenia status or other pertinent information. · Implement standardization of the clinic process i.e. assure that each clinic staff member understands their role and how to gain the information needed for the pre-clinic process on a day to day basis. · Assist in the development of clinic standards particularly related to DNKA, chart checks and breaking down of charts. · Ensure that staff is trained to deliver clinic care, education, pain management and discharge planning appropriate to age and development stage. · Assure methodology for sample closet, refrigerator and narcotics cabinet. · Participate in monthly Nurse Councils. · Assists with the development of employee appraisals and seeks out training and educational opportunities. · Assists in the development of the Clinic Quality Improvement Plan, monitors same and reports information at monthly staff meeting Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing required. At least 3 years as a professional RN. 2 years as a team leader. Oncology Certified Nurse. Current Texas RN licensure. CPR Certification required through the American Heart Association. ACLS preferred.
