Job Description

In our Lean Six Sigma chemical manufacturing plant located inGarland,TX theProduction Managerwill drive culture change through continuous improvement initiatives that will include employee engagement in Safety, Quality, Kaizen events and 5S initiatives. The Production Manager leads a team of 7 Supervisors and approximately 85 hourly production associates that are represented by a union. In this key plant leadership role reporting to the Plant Manager, s/he will have interaction with divisional business leaders, Supply Chain functional leaders, and peers on the plant leadership team to continuously improve and develop the processes in safety, quality, manufacturing, planning, procurement and distribution. The individual in this role will need to possess strong communication skills and be able to effectively work with the plant’s leadership staff to deliver results. An immediate challenge will be to develop and mentor the Production Supervisors who will become our future leaders in Quality, Distribution, EHS, Engineering, Reliability, or Purchasing. We are looking for a change agent with the passion to drive the production in its journey of continuous improvement of our manufacturing results. Successful candidates will provide documented achievements in attaining excellence in safety, quality and productivity. Success in this role will lead to advancement opportunities in such areas as Corporate Black Belt or Plant Manager.
Main Responsibilities:

Drives culture of safety where associates are engaged in behavior based safety and 5S initiatives.

*
Manages the daily manufacturing operations of the plant to ensure that the manufacturing plan is executed in a manner that meets or exceeds quality and cost objectives

*
Attracts, coaches, mentors & promotes associates to develop a strong production team. Supports a team environment in which employees work safely.

*
Works to continually improve productivity to maximize asset utilization and drive down manufacturing costs.

*
Ensures that the Quality system is followed and that plant production meets product specifications.

*
Assists with setting the annual budget for a reduction of year-over-year costs, and ensures the achievement of that budget.

*
Generates & implements selected approved capital expenditures. Works with Engineering, Reliability,Quality, Logistics, Planning, Purchasing, R&D Customers, & regulatory agencies to proactively avoid quality, environmental & service issues.

Establishes annual manufacturing TQM plans in line with Supply Chain strategy. Communicates & reinforces plant plans throughout the organization.

Collaborates with Black Belt to implement Lean Six Sigma strategies.

*
Leads the continuous improvement in productivity to maximize asset utilization and drive down manufacturing costs.

Basic Qualifications:

*
4 year degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other engineering disciplines.

*
3+ years experience in a related consumer goods industry with experience in at least 2 operations functional areas, e.g. Production, Distribution, Planning, Purchasing, Quality, Engineering

*
5+ years experience as a production manager in a union environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced Technical Degree or MBA and Lean Six Sigma Black or Green Belt certification.

Proven ability to lead and communicate effectively to build & develop a superior production team.

Knowledge of financial measurements of Operations, Capital Management experience and strong computer literacy.
