Weird Celebrity Health Remedies

Posted by in Healthcare

Celebs have long been known for their offbeat health remedies. Some are loosely based on science; others are simply fad and superstition. As a nutritionist and healthcare professional, your job is to separate fact from fad and help those who need sound nutritional advice. Here are some interesting health remedies that popular celebs have taken a shine to:

Madonna was a fan of B12 vitamin injections, which she claimed possessed energy boosting properties. The shot supposedly helps red blood cells carry more oxygen efficiently. Joining Madonna are celebs Charlize Theron and Hugh Jackman, who also swear by B12 injections. A doctor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is said to inject nearly 30 shots a week to patients seeking to reduce stress and boost energy.

While in Austria doing a "cleanse," Demi Moore used leeches to detoxify her blood and optimize health. She said that leaches release an enzyme into your blood when they bite you that help detoxify the blood. Medicinal leeches have been used since medieval times to help with fever and inflammation.

Pop star Fergie insists that apple cider vinegar has helped manage her weight. She says she noticed a difference on her stomach. The vinegar is made by crushing fresh apples that ferment in a barrel. Taken with olive oil, the claim is that it may provide help with allergies, acne, sore throats, chronic fatigue, arthritis and gout.

It’s said that Halle Berry uses coffee beans to help her deal with cellulite on her butt and thighs. She insists that caffeine is used in a number of cellulite creams, adding that caffeine may boost fat metabolism, reduce swelling and help smooth the skin.
