More Holiday Job Tips

Posted by in Retail

I've already written a couple of posts on tips for getting a holiday job and holiday job trends but I figure the more the merrier!

While browsing the web I came across a great, practical article for retail job seekers looking for work during the holiday season.

Many times articles that claim to give you the best tips and tricks fail to actually tell you where the jobs are!

This article does not leave you hanging.

The first trend the article stated that was shocking:

"When it comes to finding part-time work this season, experience may trump education."

For someone who has higher degrees this may make you a bit nervous. But it does make sense. During this busy season employers are looking for people who they can hire and put right to work. They don't want to spend extra time training people, especially individuals who may not be around for the long-term.

If this makes you nervous then target jobs that you know you can excel at. There has to be something in the retail industry that can make you stand out from all the other job applicants.

However, the article also states that the "good" employers are the ones willing to spend the time and money to train you. So keep that in mind when you are searching for a long-term position.

So now to the good part, where to find these holiday jobs:

Target "high-end" retailers like BMW, Tiffany & Co., or Nordstrom.

Why? Well, because data shows that upper-income people are still spending a lot during the recession. Where spending has dropped off in other demographics, spending has remained strong for those that make more money.

That means that these employers will need more help during the holidays. Even if you don't typically shop at these places, give them a chance. Just like the article states: "go where the action is," you have to go where there are job opportunities.

What are some great places you've worked during the holiday season? Let me know in the comments.
